Riga is the city which pays lots of attention to its little residents.

There two large parks for children in the open air – this is Mezaparks, which comprises the Zoo, an amusement park, a children’s railway and an up-to-date playground, as well as the large recreation complex Lido. In Jurmala, there is also an outstanding park for family vacation named Dzintari, which offers both a playground and an amusement park. There is an up-to-date children’s town, an aquapark and a narrow-gauge railroad available in the city of Ventspils.

Among the main roofed places which certainly attract children, who meanwhile visit those together with their parents, are the aquapark Livu in Jurmala, the complex Go Planet, as well as the children’s town Lido in the shopping centre Spice (in Latvia, the name of this centre is pronounced as “spi:ce”).

It is true, nevertheless, that all the afore-mentioned places and parks are located rather far from the city centre, and to get there you will certainly need to go either by public transport or by car. In summer, however, even an ordinary stroll down the streets of the Old Town and its adjacent parks is a small-time adventure. At weekends, here are always fairs, street concerts and other events going on. You can take a boat trip down the canals or simply feed ducks on the shore. In the centre of the city, there are always playgrounds available for children, trampolines and air-inflated slides, as well as children’s cars which can be taken for rent. In winter, also skating rinks are available.

Besides parks in Riga, there is the circus and the Puppet theatre (performances are run in either Latvian language or Russian language), and of course the movie theatre Forum Cinemas. Outside the city, the main attraction is the nature park Tervete, where in its Forest you can come across a secret town of gnomes with their own railway. Apart from all that, some excursions (to the airport or to the chocolate factory) can be provided on your request.

Of course, you can visit one of our bowling centres, or swimming pools or go to one of the parks for active rest available, which are always opened in whole Latvia.

Recreation Complex Lido

Lido is both a restaurant designed in the style of truly Latvian national tradition and also an amusement park for children, which makes the place perhaps the most popular place for family vacation during both weekdays and weekends.

Numerous events are always organized on the children’s playground; there are various attractions available for children, a driving school, jumping ropes, slides, climbs, and many others. Very often in the cellar of the restaurant you can enjoy music performances by different Latvian musicians in the evenings, also during international sports competitions you can always go for your favourite sports team over a glass of cold beer, meanwhile watching the game on the large screen provided.

In the restaurant, you can try the delicious and rich food offered, which will bring you closer to the Latvian national cuisine.

Every winter there is a skating rink opened, and a huge fir-tree is set up; but during summers, both adults and children can always go roller-skating on the specially provided ground.
By the way, in case you are about to have a business lunch or an important meeting in an informal setting, feel free to visit the second floor of the Lido restaurant. There, in quiet and cosy atmosphere you might taste different sorts of delicacies and have a great time!

The Zoo

The zoological garden of Riga is located in the most beautiful and picturesque place in Riga – in Mezaparks, near the lake Kisezers. The Zoo is opened to visitors all year long, except for 1 January and 24 June.

Here, both children and adults will have a stupendous time.

You can take a stroll in the open air and take a look at the 475 species of animals which are provided here, use the services of a guide, ride a horse, feed the animals in specially determined places or simply get lots of pleasure.

Only recently the tropical garden has been constructed here, a home for both poisonous and not insects, scorpions, snakes, crocodiles and fish, in other words, all animals that can be found only in tropical climates.

At the Zoo of Riga, children can not only observe the animals they cannot observe in the natural environment, but also play with those domestic animals that can be observed in any small town or village. Besides, there are many educational games located on the territory of the Zoo, also the working “living carousel” and a café.

The Circus

The history of the Riga Circus counts more than a hundred years. This is the only stationary circus in the Baltic region.

The Circus was built by a circus performer, who bought out the land on which the present day Riga Circus is located. Performances begin to take place from the penultimate Friday of October and last till Easter, and within the given period of time 2 or 3 programmes are usually shown, as well as 2 additional ones, a Christmas one and an Easter one.

In the Riga Circus the following clowns have performed: the Pencil (M. Rumancev), J. Nikulin, B. Vatkin, M.Shudin, O.Popov, mime performer - L.Engibarov; trapeze artists - sisters Koch; acrobats - the Khanagins; illusionists – father and son Kio; animal trainers – the Durov family, I. Bugrimova, M.Nazarova, V. Zapashni, and many other artists from different world countries.

GO Planet

GO PLANET is one of the largest and most contemporary centres for active rest in the Baltic region. Here, each of you will find some entertainment to your liking. GO PLANET, in turn, offers a wide range of all possible entertainments for both adults and children. Visit the professional carting race track, simulators of the new generation, including the F1 simulator, the 4D movie theatre, the multilevel laser labyrinth, video games, simple or professional billiards, and you will be in awe!

Our youngest visitors can enjoy various attractions in a colourful children’s area with carousels, computer games, toy cars, the tower, so that kids could climb and jump, as well as different educational games. Also here, there is a specially equipped musical theatre for children, which often runs theatricals, circus performances and other kinds of performances.

To have a quick snack, you can go to either the restaurant or children’s café with a special children’s menu.

There are also special halls in the centre, where you can celebrate your child's birthday.

LIDO Spice

If you ever visit the shopping centre Spice with your children, make sure you visit the second floor where the Lido restaurant is located, as there both adults and children can have delicious meals. Moreover, adults will get a little more time for rest, sending their children to dally in the children’s town – to take a ride in the almost real-life train, or learn to drive a car in children’s driving school, or just to climb and jump around.

For very little ones, there is a special area offering educational or developmental games, where toddlers can stay either with their mums or under the supervision of attentive “nannies”.

On your request, it is possible to throw a birthday party for your child and his or her friends – with clowns, games and contests.

It is always tasty, fun and great in Lido!

Аквапарк "Livu"

Aquapark “Livu” is one of the biggest roofed aquaparks in northern Europe. There are more than 40 different attractions and pools of all sorts, also both open and closed saunas. You can spend a whole day in the aquapark and you are going to love every minute of it, and also you are going to remember this relaxation! Toddlers and kids can take some fine relaxation as well – to swim in the river Orinoco, or shoot from water guns in the country of Capitan Kid, what is more, the pools “Mum’s”, “Dad’s”, as well as “Calibri” are specially meant for toddlers.

Also in the aquapark, while relaxing in the pool, you can try the most delicious drink ever, as well as enjoy the hydrotherapeutic procedures to the full.

NatureParkTervete

The nature park Tervete is an ideal place for family vacation, where each of you, both a child and an adult, will feel as if in a fairy tale. Among the all-time favourite places of the park is the Forest of gnomes, where you can meet wooden sculptures of the characters from Anna Brigadere’s fairy tales, the gnomes Spriditis, Lutausis, Mother of the Forest and other characters. Special admiration is invoked by living fairytale characters that always brighten the day of both children and adults with their jokes, games and other performances.

Those people who would like to take a break from routine fuss, to enjoy their relaxation without haste, are invited to visit the old pine park. The latter is full of nice paths for quiet strolls.

There is also the Fairytale train making trips throughout the park, and this train at the present moment is the only narrow-gauge railway of its type left in Latvia.
