In Riga, Chekhov felt himself free and contented, while doing what he loved the most.

Over time and with the change in the political forces, Chekhov was accused of illegal gains, and had to leave the Baltic States.
The Russian Drama Theatre has recently celebrated the 120th anniversary of its existence. The given date is significant not only for the attendants of the theatre but also for all Russian-speaking residents of Riga.

  The National Opera House

The Latvian National Opera is the biggest musical theatre in Latvia. Since the day of its opening in the year 1918, the National Opera House has become the center of music life in the city. From year to year, various great masters and talented actors have passed their masterfulness to the next generation and have thus brought up their successors, passing to them their own pieces of knowledge and skills. Thus, whole new generations of artists have been born, the artists who have preserved the traditions of the National Opera.
